Main
Responsibilities
Acting under the direct authority and supervision of the Director UNESCO Iraq Office and the Project Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for planning, coordination and implementation of a number of Education projects which fall within the framework of UNESCO’s support to the rehabilitation of the education system in Iraq, including the implementation of a new project related to updating and renewing Iraqi curriculum as well as preparing full training programs for Iraqi teachers. Within this scope the incumbent shall perform the following duties:
Prepare and finalize project operational plans and activities ensuring compliance with specific assigned objectives and outputs of the projects ensuring synergy between the projects;
Organize and implement all activities related to the project under his/her supervision;
Prepare and coordinate all capacity building programmes, including organization of training workshops, field visit and seminars;
Identify and contribute to the selection of technical consultants required for the project; as well as assessing and following-up of consultants activities;
Ensure proper coordination with national counterparts (MOE, MOHE etc.) and other partners in Baghdad and/or Amman;
Preparing periodic reports and documents on project activities to Project Coordinator;
Contribute to the design and preparation of new projects/programmes for implementation in Iraq;
Liaise closely with the UNESCO Programme Coordinator in Baghdad and UNESCO national staff in country to assure proper management, monitoring and control of project activities;
Ensure regular coordination with the Education Sector at UNESCO Headquarters and other UNESCO offices and institutes, as well as other UN sister agencies to strengthen project outputs and build synergy with other UNESCO programmes and activities;
Participate when and as required in the work of inter-agency working groups on Education and ensure cooperation with UNESCO’s major partners
Supervise, evaluate, and guide the work of professional and support staff working on the project;
Undertake any other functions as required.


Profile
Advanced university degree (Master, B.A. or equivalent) in Education, Social Sciences or a similar related field.
At least 5 to 8 years of progressively responsible relevant experience, of which preferably 5 years acquired at the international level in the field of curricula, content analysis, development, textbooks in key disciplines and assessment. Experience in teacher training field. Proven experience in planning, formulation and identification of teachers needs in terms of training programs, teaching materials, new teaching methodologies and approach.
Ability to work on Education in crisis-affected areas
Experience in conducting micro-planning (project operational plans), formulation, implementation and evaluation of educational projects. Knowledge in econometric and statistics would be an asset.
Strong managerial skills and ability to teamwork and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and with people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
Proven administrative and organizational skills in preparing and implementing workshops, seminars and conferences at all levels.
Excellent IT skills.
Excellent knowledge of English. A good working knowledge of Arabic language would be an asset.

Conditions of employment
The incumbent shall be offered a ALD Contract (Appointment of Limited Duration) with a gross salary of USD 101,000 per annum. The initial appointment, which is for one year, includes a probationary period of 3 months, and is renewable subject to satisfactory service and funding availability. UNESCO is a non smoking organization.
